... was the Taunus 15M from the 1960s. No, I didn't know either. 1.5 litre V4 and not many horse powers.

Until yesterday, I had no idea either—I found out about it while I was making a list of how many RSes had been 2WD, as opposed to 4WD/AWD, before the reveal. My favourites are these three:

Yes, Ford Germany operated in a world of their own until the 1970s. They had for example a V4 and a V6 at the same time as Ford UK had their own, similarly sized but different V4 and V6.
Today's trivia: Ford made trucks and other vehicles for both sides during WW2.

I was aware of the old divide between Ford of Britain, Ford of Germany and Ford of America, but the WWII thing is news to me. I suppose that each side's Fords had, as you would expect, very little to do with one-another, mechanically?

There was some connection, at least early on. See the Eifel which was based on the Prefect and Anglia and used a Ford UK engine. The Taunus models that followed it were in some cases designed by and for Ford US who then changed their minds and gave them to Cologne.
There was of course Ford France as well...their last car was the American designed Vedette which became a Simca Vedette following Ford's sale of Ford SAF. Interestingly PSA still use the old Ford factory at Poissy.
